DMACC VOLLEYBALL TEAM SWEEPS SWCC TO IMPROVE TO 9-1

Sophomore Tatum Meyer of Algona had 11 kills and sophomore Taylor Case of Preston, Minn., and Amara Chappelear of Ankeny added eight apiece as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team improved to 9-1 for the season with a 3-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) September 16 at Creston.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-20, 25-22.

The win also kept the Bears undefeated in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at 3-0. DMACC entered the match ranked fourth nationally in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

Freshman Moriah Johnson of Ankeny and sophomore Shelby Schouten of Alton had seven and five kills respectively as DMACC hit .349 in the match. The Bears got 41 kills from 86 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

Freshman Peyton Benson of Tripoli led DMACC in assists with 32 and freshman Jordyn Rittman of Ankeny had two ace serves and a team-high 11 digs. Case came away with nine digs.

DMACC will play in the Cobra Classic Sept. 18 and 19 at Champaign, Ill. The schedule calls for the Bears to face Owen Community College (OCC) and Illinois Central College (ICC) on Sept. 18 and Muskegon Community College (MCC) and Vincennes University (VU) on Sept. 19.
