Cincinnati, OH---In a game featuring two undefeated teams, the Cincinnati State women's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Schoolcraft College on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Cincinnati State, which entered the game ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA national poll, opened the scoring in the 54th minute when sophomore Julie Martin scored her team leading 5th goal of the season on a converted penalty kick. 12 minutes later, Schoolcraft would tie the game when forward Remy Huttekier tapped in a loose ball after a Schoolcraft corner kick.
With forwards Brittani Abner and Martin limited due lower body injuries, Cincinnati State goalkeeper Kelsie Lee kept the Schoolcraft scorers at bay with 7 second half saves, including a save on a 10 yard strike from Schoolcraft's Jessica Perry in the 85th minute.
With the Surge unable to generate a shot in the overtime periods, Lee saved the first three shots she faced in extra time. Unfortunately for the Surge, Schoolcraft's fourth and final shot from Kelly Mckay found its way past Lee with 44 seconds remaining in double overtime as the No. 14 ranked Ocelots handed the Surge their first loss of the season.
With the win, Schoolcraft improved to 5-0 overall. The Surge, which are now 3-1, will travel to Toledo, OH to play Owens Community College on Wednesday.
