Fort Wayne Northrop's Wright Transfers To Express Women's Basketball Program
Toledo, OH---Paige Wright, a 5'10" guard, has signed a letter of intent to transfer from Saginaw Valley State University and play for the Express women's basketball program next year.
Toledo, OH---Paige Wright, a 5'10" guard, has signed a letter of intent to transfer from Saginaw Valley State University and play for the Express women's basketball program next year.
The sophomore to be suffered an injury earlier in her freshman year, but battled back and started 10 games for NCAA D-II Saginaw Valley last year. One of those games, a Jan. 24 matchup against Grand Valley State University, saw Wright capture Meijer Player of the Game honors. She finished with 10 points (3-for-6 from the field, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the foul line), three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Despite playing limited minutes in most games, Wright averaged 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and one assist per game in 22 games. She shot 33.3 percent (22-for-66) from the field, 37.8 percent (17-for-45) from 3-point range and 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the foul line.
Prior to playing at Saginaw Valley, Wright prepped at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, IN. During her time there, she was a four-year starter, a three-year captain and led the team in assists. While playing for coach Doug Curtis, she also earned an academic honors diploma. She played AAU for PAL Elite.
Paige is the daughter of Larry and Terri Wright. She has three siblings - Jackie, Tommy and Stevie.

Wright becomes the fifth new member of the 2013-14 Express women's basketball program, and all of them are at least 5'10". She is the first transfer among them and joins incoming freshmen Zhana Randolph (5'10" G/F, Rochester High School), Hannah Griffin (5'11" F, Edgerton High School), Maura Hackney (6'1" F/C, Edgewood High School) and LaKayra Carlisle (5'10" G/F, Detroit Pershing High School).
The Express women's basketball team finished 28-8 last season and advanced to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament, where they finished seventh in the nation. During the season, they captured the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) title, as well as the Region XII District I title. Their 28 wins marked the second most in a single season.
