Thiaw, Mutlu Each Earn OCCAC Honors In Men's Soccer

Mohamed Thiaw and Jake Mutlu of the No. 20 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College men's soccer team have been named the OCCAC offensive and defensive player of the week recipients, respectively.
Mutlu, a freshman goalkeeper, made 10 saves combined in a pair of wins over Muskegon Community College and Jackson College. He opened the week with six saves in an 8-0 win over Muskegon and closed the week with four saves in a 6-1 win over Jackson.
Mutlu has 56 saves over 14 matches for Cincinnati State. The win over Muskegon marked his sixth shutout of the season.
Thiaw, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I leader in goals scored (24) and points (59), scored four goals and added one assist in those two games. He had two goals in the win over Muskegon, followed by two goals and an assist in the win over Jackson.
The sophomore forward has now scored in all but two matches this year while posting nine games of at least two goals. In addition to his 24 goals this year, he also has 11 assists.
Thiaw's selection is his fourth of the season and the sixth of his career. He previously won the award on Aug. 30, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20. Mutlu, meanwhile, picked up his second selection of the season after winning on Sept. 20.
Cincinnati State is now 10-2-2 overall. They will be back in action this weekend with home matches against Lake Michigan College and No. 15 Schoolcraft College.
