The Cincinnati State men's soccer team earned a 6-0 road win over Ancilla Community College on Saturday. With the win, the Surge extended its current winning streak to four games.
Sophomores Justin Mitchell, Logan Gumbert and freshman Brad Gale scored two goals each. Gumbert, a graduate of Anderson High School, also added two assists giving him a game high six points.
Ranked no.15 in the junior college national poll with a 4-1 overall record, the Surge will travel to western Michigan to take on Muskegon Community College on Sunday. The teams split last year's season series with the Surge winning the last meeting in double overtime.
"Muskegon has solidified itself as one of the top teams in the region in just the second year of the program's existence," Head Coach Mike Combs says. "We will have to play with the same type of team effort and cohesion to come away with a win."
The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
The Cincinnati State women were unable to capture the same success as the men, losing 2-0 to Kellogg Community College.
"It is frustrating. We did not get off to a good start and made a few mistakes. Kellogg capitalized off our mistakes early with two goals in the first half and we were unable to generate any offense," Head Coach Wil Cagle said.
Falling to 0-3 overall, the Lady Surge will attempt to earn their first win of the season as they also travel to play Muskegon on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
