The Cincinnati State men's soccer team beat Parkland Community College (Ill.) 2-1 on Saturday in the first of two games at the Illinois Central College Invitational.
Cincinnati State's Bradley Gale opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute of the first half. Tyler Gumbert, a graduate from Anderson, scored in the thirty fifth to give the Surge a 2-0 advantage at the half. Defender Liam Doyle assisted on both goals.
Starting keeper Hunter Kautz faced nine Parkland shots, saving eight as the Surge improved to 2-1 overall on the season.
"We gave a quality effort today. Brad (Gale) and Tyler (Gumbert) presented mismatches upfront and Hunter played extremely solid in net , " Head Coach Mike Combs said.
The Surge will return to action on Sunday against tournament host Illinois Central College (2-0-1) at 1:00 pm.
