Owens Golf Closes Out Perfect OCCAC Season

Toledo, OH---Walter Dorosh of Owens Community College shot a 73 amid windy conditions to lead the No. 2 Express men's golf team to a first place finish at the Owens Invitational at Belmont Country Club today.

The victory gives Owens a first place finish in all six OCCAC tournaments this year.

Dorosh's 73 was one stroke short of first place, which went to Columbus State's Ash Alstadt and his 72.

As a team, the Express shot a 310, while Columbus State's 317 was good for second place. Lakeland Community College (341), Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (347) and Lorain County Community College (367) rounded out the field.

All-OCCAC Honors

Alstadt won the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year award after edging out Brandon Hoelzer of Owens on the final day. Alstadt's 73.83 average over six tournaments was just better than Hoelzer's 74.33. The difference came down to three strokes.

Owens placed four golfers on the five person All-OCCAC First Team. Those players included Hoelzer, Darren Gessner (75.5), Blaze Hogan (76.17) and Luke Berger (76.17).

The Express also placed three players on the All-OCCAC Second Team, including (77.50), Glass (79.33) and Dawkins (79.83). Other second team selections included Matt Nickoson of Cincinnati State (77), Jason Stasiulewicz of Columbus State, Pat Kaneekijpanukul of Lakeland and Mike Maxwell of Columbus State.

First-year Express head coach Josh Williams was named OCCAC Coach of the Year today. 

Notes

Today's tournament also counted as the NJCAA D-II Sub-Region XII tournament. The top two finishing teams (Owens and Columbus State) advance to the NJCAA D-II Region XII tournament on May 13-14 at the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek, MI.
