Surge eclipse century mark with 106-44 win over Moraine Valley

Cincinnati, OH---Playing host to this weekend's Surge Basketball Classic, Cincinnati State defeated Moraine Valley Community College 106-44 on Friday night.
Cincinnati State's Hugh Hobbs Jr., a sophomore from Louisville, KY, came off the bench to finish with game highs in points (23) and assists (5) while converting 9 of 12 field goals in 24 minutes of playing time. Winston Grays recorded 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 3 steals. Freshman Trent Donald, a Winton Woods graduate, led the team with 4 steals to go along with 12 points. DJ Cogdell, a freshman from Pontiac, MI, chipped in with 10 points off the bench as the Surge offense eclipsed the century mark for the 5th time this season. The team is currently second in the nation in scoring, averaging 106.1 points per contest.
Cincinnati State, which ranks no. 1 in the nation in steals (19.5 spg) & rebounds (53.4 rpg), out rebounded their opponent 66-39 and held a 22-6 edge in 2nd chance points. The Surge forced the Cyclones into 26 turnovers, ultimately leading to a 29-6 advantage in points scored in transition. Moraine Valley shot 25.8 % from the field compared to Cincinnati State's 48.2% mark.
Moraine Valley, which is ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA national poll, fell to 2-5 overall after Friday's loss.
Improving to 8-1 on the season and currently ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA national poll, Cincinnati State returns to the court on Saturday against Triton College at 5 pm in the final game of the Cincinnati State Surge Classic.
