The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference has named individuals from seven sports as the 2019-20 Scholar-Athletes of the Year. In addition, 23 OCCAC student-athletes earned a spot on the ’19-20 All-Sportsmanship Team.
A swap to virtual learning during the Spring ’20 semester did little to derail the academic success of many student-athletes across the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. The complete list of OCCAC Academic All-Conference laurels is below. To qualify, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least six credit hours (credit hour qualification reduction for this semester only due to COVID-19).
The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) is continuing to celebrate the 2010’s, announcing ‘All-Decade’ teams. Next up is baseball, where a dozen student-athletes earned a spot on the OCCAC All-Decade baseball squad.
Following the recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the NJCAA has made the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming basketball championships as well as spring competition, effective immediately.
Alyssa Theodor (Edison State) and Cassidy King (Sinclair) are the first OCCAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week award winners of the 2020 season. Fellow member of the Tartan Pride, Gage Voorhees, picked up Pitcher of the Week recognition for baseball while Owens’ Jarrett Batanian is the OCCAC Baseball Player of the Week.
Clark State Baseball opened its 2020 season by taking a series over Ancilla College, plating a dozen runs in both wins. Brandon Williams and Mick Pierrot earned OCCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for their efforts in pushing the Eagles to the series victory.
The third-ranked Tartan Pride of Sinclair Community College opened up the 2020 baseball season by taking three of four games against Macomb Community College. Two members of the squad shined brightest and earned OCCAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week distinction. Right fielder Seth Gergly snags the position player honor while Gage Voorhees was the top hurler.
