Alex Young, Tyler Huth, Tori Weidinger and Lesley Ducat have earned this week's OCCAC player and pitcher of the week honors in baseball and softball.
Young, a freshman outfielder from Sinclair Community College, went 7-for-11 (.636) to earn the player of the week honor in baseball. In his 11 at bats, he scored eight runs while tallying two doubles, six stolen bases and eight RBIs. On the season, Young is hitting .437 with 16 RBIs, 24 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.
Young and the Tartan Pride are 21-8 overall and 7-1 in OCCAC play, which puts them in sole possession of first place.
Huth, meanwhile, is a freshman right handed pitcher from Owens Community College. In a closely contested pitcher of the week competition, Huth won out over Pat Boyle of Sinclair (1-0, 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K) and Steve Dorsey of Lakeland (2-0, 12 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 18 K). To do so, Huth went 2-0 with a complete game victory and a win in relief. In 7.2 innings, he allowed three hits and two walks with 14 strikeouts. In a 1-0 win over Lakeland on April 5, he tossed seven innings and allowed three hits and two walks with 14 strikeouts, which tied the program's single game record.
Huth and the Express are 8-14 overall and 3-5 in OCCAC play, which puts them in third place in the OCCAC.
Weidinger and Ducat, both of Owens Community College, helped lead their team to a 7-1 record last week, including a 4-0 record in OCCAC play.
Weidinger, a freshman catcher/outfielder, was named the player of the week in softball. She went 11-for-23 (.478) with five runs, four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. In OCCAC action, she went 7-for-14 (.500) with five runs, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs. On the season, she is hitting .469 with nine doubles, two triples, five home runs, 22 RBIs and 11 runs. In OCCAC play, she leads the conference in at bats, home runs, RBIs and total bases.
Ducat, a freshman pitcher, earned pitcher of the week honors in softball. She appeared in eight games total last week and went 7-0 with three complete games. She totaled 34 innings pitched, 37 hits allowed, 12 runs allowed, 11 earned runs allowed, four walks, 34 strikeouts and a 2.26 ERA.
In OCCAC play, Ducat was 4-0 in four appearances spanning 19 innings. She allowed 22 hits, eight runs (seven earned) and two walks with 19 strikeouts. Earlier in the week, she tossed a complete game shutout of No. 8 Mercyhurst North East. In that game, she allowed five hits and zero walks while striking out eight. For the season, she is 13-0 with 69 IP, 67 K and a 2.13 ERA.
The Express softball team is 14-2 overall and 4-0 in OCCAC play, which puts them in sole possession of first place.
