Three institutions are represented in the latest OCCAC Athletes of the Week recognition as Cuyahoga’s Josie Miliken (softball) and Keegan Gilbride (baseball) earned Position Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, and Tyler Biskup (baseball) of Bryant & Stratton (OH) and Marissa Pine (softball) from Edison State earned the other awards for their respective sports.
Miliken was a force throughout two conference doubleheaders, recording at least one hit, one run and two or more RBI in all four contests. She hit .692 (9-13) for the week with a triple, homerun and 10 RBI while scoring six runs in pushing the Triceratops to three OCCAC wins.
Pine defended her standing as the reigning Pitcher of the Week, running her career total to seven weekly OCCAC awards (six pitcher, one position player). She took to the circle three times, departing with the win in each. Her 3-0 week included 25 strikeouts across 18.1 innings, surrendering four earned runs (nine total) on 12 hits and nine walks. Pine added three hits and four RBI with her bat as well.
Biskup and the Bobcats won five of six conference clashes, including a 4-game sweep over Edison State. The sophomore catcher racked up four doubles, two homeruns and 11 RBI at the dish, adding three steals and seven runs on the basepaths. His second homerun of the week was his 12th of the season, setting a program record. Biskup set the tone early against the Chargers with a crucial five RBI in the 8-5 Game One triumph.
Gilbride came away with the win in both of his starts, racking up 16 strikeouts in 11 innings. Following a 4-inning start at Ashland University, he dazzled in a 7-inning complete game shutout versus conference foe Clark State. Gilbride gave up just nine hits for the week, issued no walks in either start, and saw just two runs come across in the 5-4 victory at Ashland.
