Coach Walker's philosophy is based on student-athletes achieving in the classroom in pursuit of their college degrees. Further, he extends this philosophy to cultivating life, academic and athletic skills for his student-athletes with a special emphasis on service to the community. He places a strong emphasis on personally supervising study tables to make certain that his players have clearly established academic standards, access to his unique experiential knowledge, and accountability from academic coaches. Walker states, "The academic game plan provides an excellent opportunity for coaches and student-athletes to interact away from basketball, and more importantly develop relationships that go beyond basketball."
