Combs wins 100th game at Cincinnati State
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College men's soccer coach Mike Combs won his 100th game as Surge coach with a 1-0 win over Schoolcraft College on Saturday. The win was the first ever over Schoolcraft College in the regular season. Combs, in his seventh season, has current record at Cincinnati is 100-21-5 and is seeking their fifth Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) title in seven seasons. The Surge squad is make up of 21 true freshman and only three sophomores. Cincinnati State is ranked 13th in the nation and is 8-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC.

Maiorano and Morgan named OCCAC soccer player and goalie of the week
Lakeland Community College defender Aldo Maiorano and Cincinnati State Technical & Community College goaltender Austin Morgan have been named OCCAC soccer player and goalkeeper of the week respectivefully. Maiorano was intrumental in holding off a late Owens Community College charge as the Lakers defeated the Express 2-1. He great defending skills helped the Lakers improve to 1-2 in the conference and a tie for second place. Morgan played two games last week allowing only one goal in the two games including a shutout of Schoolcraft College. The OCCAC congratulates Aldo and Austin on the award.

Owens CC Kurtz named OCCAC volleyball player of the week
Maureen Kurtz has been named OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week. Kurtz had 68 kills in 24 sets last week. She also had 36 digs and 28 blocks as the Lady Express went 2-4. "Maureen is becoming a very mature and dominate player in the middle blocker position.", said Head Coach Sonny Lewis. "She is continuing to improve and working hard." The OCCAC congratulates Maureen on the award.

Columbus State Zumberger named NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Columbus State Community Community College Morgan Zumberger was named NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. Zumberger, a 5' 3" libero, averaged 4.87 digs per game. The sophomore was named the MVP of the Kamina Allen Tournament at Genesee (NY) CC the plast weekend. She had 17 digs against Mott (MI) CC and Hagerstown (MD) CC. The OCCAC congratulates Morgan on her award.

Columbus State holds onto number one ranking for fourth week
The Columbus State Community College is the ranked number one in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Poll for the fourth straight week. The Cougars are 24-2 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Jackie Randulic with 2.77 kills per set, 0.82 aces per set, 2.36 digs per set, while Kelley Lefeld with 2.31 kills per game and 0.45 blocks per set. Kristin Bergman has 2.26 kills per game. Morgan Kohls has 0.68 aces per set, while Rebecca Berger has 0.66 aces per set and 2.00 digs per set. Morgan Zumberger has 4.84 digs per set and Megan Danner has 2.56 digs per set and 7.58 assists per set.
Edison Community College dropped two spots in this week poll to number 18. The Chargers are 11-5 overall and 1-0 OCCAC. They are led by Holly Tobais with 3.02 kills per set, while Bethany Hoehne has 7.82 assists per set. Shelby Shimp has 3.79 digs per set, while Tara Spicer has 2.32 digs per set and 0.36 blocks per set.

Cincinnati State debuts at number 13 in weekly soccer poll
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College men's soccer team is ranked 13th in this week's NJCAA Division I Soccer Poll. The Surge are 8-1-1 and 3-0-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Dylan Hoop with eight goals and 23 points. Ashton Bennett has eight goals and 18 points, while Cody Clark with five goals and 16 points. Grant Kercher has six goals and 16 points.

The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team remained the number one team in the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Poll for the third straight week. The Couagrs 16-2 overall and 2-0 in the OCCAC. The Cougars are led by Jackie Randulic with 3.02 kills per set 0.79 aces per set, 2.47 digs per set, while Kelley Ledfeld has 2.45 kills per set, 0.51 blocks per set. Kristin Bergman has 2.16 kills per set, while Rebecca Berger has 0.71 aces per set, 7.41 assists per set. Morgan Kohl has 0.69 aces per set, While Morgan Zumberger has 4.88 digs per game. Megan Danner has 2.21 digs per set, while Elise England has 0.50 blocks per set.

The Cincinnati State Technical and Community College men's soccer is in the others receiving votes this week. The Surge are 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Dylan Hoop with eight goals, seven assists and 23 points, while Ashton Bennett has seven goals, two assists and 16 points. Cody Clark has four goals, six points and 14 points. Austin Morgan has a 1.50 goals against average and has made 41 saves in 540 minutes.

Owens CC Hearn named OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week
Owens Community College outside hitter Brooke Hearn has been named OCCAC volleyball player of the week for the week ending September 20, 2009. Hearn had 21 kills in seven games with a .222 hitting percentage. She had five aces, four digs and three blocks as the Lady Express went 1-1. "Brooke did a great job for us the week.", said Head Coach Sonny Lewis. "She is stepping up to be a go to player for Owens." The OCCAC congratulates Brooke on this award

Cincinnati's Brizzi and Morgan named soccer player/goaltender of the week
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College's Mike Brizzi and Austin Morgan have been named OCCAC Soccer Player and Goaltender of the week respectively for the week ending September 20, 2009. Mike Brizzi had one assist for the Surge this week but was key to Cincinnati State Technical & CC being 3-0 in the OCCAC. "Mike Brizzi had made a huge impact in the back of our defense.", said Head Coach Mike Combs. "In all three OCCAC matches, Mike has shut down all top forwards from Owens, Lakeland, Cuyahoga. I subbed Mike out in the last five minutes of the Cuyahoga when the score was 3-0 and Cuyahoga scored a goal with two minutes left. Mike Brizzi has been the best defender for us."
Austin Morgan played both games this week giving up one goal in 180 minutes facing 17 shots as the Surge went 2-0 this week. The OCCAC congratulates Mike and Austin on their awards

Columbus State remains in the top spot for second week
Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team remained the number one team in the NJCAA Division II National Volleyball poll. The Cougars are 13-1 overall and 2-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Jackie Randulic with 3.0 kills per set, 0.76 aces per set, 2.45 digs per set, while Kelley Lefeld with 2.47 kills per set and 0.53 blocks per set. Kristin Bergman averages 2.18 kills per set, while Rebecca Berger has 0.69 aces per set and 7.18 assists per set. Morgan Kohls has 0.61 aces per set, while Morgan Zumberger has 4.77 kills per set. Elise England has 0.63 blocks per set. Edison Community College moved up one spot this week to number 14. The Chargers are 10-1 overall and are led by Holly Tobias with 3.26 kills per set. Madison Griesdorn has 2.00 kills per set, while Shelby Shimp has 2.23 digs per set. Bethany Hoehne has 8.02 assists per set, while Tara Spicer has 0.48 blocks per set. Owens Community College is still in the others receiving votes catagory. The Lady Express are 14-7 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. Maureen Kurtz leds the team with 2.52 kills per set and 0.58 blocks per game, while Lauren Lind has 2.367 kills per set. Cincinnati State's Hoop named OCCAC Soccer Player of the Week
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College Dylan Hoop had been named the OCCAC soccer player of the week for the week of September 7-13, 2009. Hoop had four goals and two assists this week including a hat trick versus Wilmington College, a game in which he also had and assist. He had a goal and an assist versus OCCAC foe Owens Community College in a 5-0 win over the Express. Dylan is also third in the NJCAA Division I in overall points this season with 21 points. The OCCAC congratulates Dylan on the award.

Owens Kurtz named OCCAC Player of the Week
Owens Community College Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker Maureen Kurtz has been named the OCCAC volleyball Player of the Week. Kurtz had 50 kills and just nine errors in 21 games last week. She had two assists, five aces, 21 digs and 17 blocks in six matches. The Express went 5-1 last week. The OCCAC congratulates Maureen on the award.

Columbus State CC tops Women's Division II Volleyball Poll
Just days after knocking of defending National Champions Kishwaukee (IL) College and a highly ranked Parkland (IL) College, the Cougars are being notices for their accomplishments. Columbus State Community College is ranked number one in this week's NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll. The Cougars are 11-1 overall, after going 5-0 this weekend at the Owens Community College Express Tournament. Jackie Randulic leads the Cougars with 3.04 kills per game, 0.6 aces per game and 2.5 digs per game, while Kristin Bergman has 2.07 kills per game. Kelley Lefeld has 2.21 kills per game and 0.5 blocks per game. Rebecca Berger has 0.6 aces per game and 6.8 assists per game, while Morgan Zumberger has 4.8 digs per game. Edison Community College is ranked 15th in this week's poll. The Chargers 9-1 overall and led by Holly Tobias with 3.26 kills per game. Tara Spicer has 0.5 blocks per game and 2.25 digs per game, while Bethany Hoehne has 7.97 assists per game. Shelby Shimp has 3.66 digs per game. Owens Community College is in the others receiving votes. The Express are 9-5 overall and are led by Maureen Kurtz with 2.6 kills per game, 0.51 blocks per game. Lauren Lind has 2.15 kills per game, while Brooke Hearn has 2.24 kills per game. Jessica Knueve has 0.44 blocks per game, while Amanda Drew has 3.72 digs per game.

Columbus State CC volleyball team knocks of ranked schools at Owens
The Columbus State Community College volleyball team had a very succesfully weekend at the Owens CC Express Tournament over the weekend. The Cougars went 5-0 over the weekend including wins over number one Kishwaukee (IL) College and number nine Parkland (IL) College.
On Friday night, the Cougars knocked off the pre-season number one and defending National champions Kishwaukee (IL) College by scores of 15-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22. Jackie Randulic had 12 kills, eight digs and two aces in the match. Kelley Lefeld had eight kills and two digs, while Morgan Zumberger had 26 digs and an ace for the match. Columbus State CC also beat Kellogg CC on Friday by scores of 25-8, 25-13, 25-15.
On Saturday, the Cougars beat number nine Parkland (IL) College, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20. They were led by Randulic with 16 kills, three aces and 11 digs, while Zumberger added 31 digs and one ace. Kristin Bergman had 12 kills, one and a half blocks and one ace. Megan Danner had two kills, 12 digs, one half block and two aces. Columbus State CC also beat St. Clair (MI) County CC, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 and Jackson (MI) CC, 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 on Saturday as well.

17 teams decend on Owens for Express Tournament
Seventeen teams met in Toledo this weekend for a three day NJCAA volleyball extravaganza. Teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan and New York showed up over the last two days for a chance to see how the measure up this early in the season. Six of the teams are ranked nationally in the pre-season poll including the number one team in the Nation, Kishwaukee (IL) College. Other ranked squads include, #9 - Parkland (IL) College, #10 - Hagerstown (MD) CC, # 13 - Columbus State CC, #15 - Genesee (NY) CC, #19 - Kalamazoo Valley CC and the host school #17 - Owens CC. Other OCCAC schools at the tournament are Sinclair Community College, Lakeland Community College and Edison Community College. The tournament finishes tomorrow with twelve match begining at 10:00 AM with Owens CC hosting Parkland (IL) College, Kishwaukee (IL) CC playing St. Clair (MI) County College and Mott (MI) CC playing Genesee (NY) CC.
