URGENT: Region XII soccer tournament playing at new locations
Due to poor weather conditions the past week and expected rain on Friday and Saturday in Northeast Ohio all games schedule at Cuyahoga Community College West Campus for the men's NJCAA Region XII soccer tournament have been moved to field turf facilities. Cuyahoga tried to use their college fields as well as other grass field in the area but they are in poor condition and due to the rain expected this weekend, the fields will only get worse. The original schedule still will remain the same but the matches will be played at different locations.
On Saturday, the matchs will be played at the Rival Sports Facilty (formerly Brad Friedel PSA Academy) in Lorain, OH. The address is 2101 Brad Fridel's Future Stars, Lorain, OH 44053. (Note: because the street is new most GPS might not recognize it, in that case you the neighboring address which is 4397 Leavit Road, Lorain, OH 44053. The web site is: www.rival-sports.com.
On Sunday, the championship game wil be at The Pinnacle Sports Facility in Medina, OH. The address is 313 Medina Road, Medina, OH. The web site is www.pinnaclesports.org.

Cincinnati State holds spot in NJCAA soccer rankings
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College held on to the number 13 ranking in the NJCAA Division I men's soccer poll. The Surge are 15-2-1 overall and won the OCCAC men's soccer title with a 6-0-0 record. They are led by Dylan Hoop with 14 goals and 12 assists for 40 points. Grant Kercher has 12 goals and 12 assists for 36 points, while Ashton Bennett has 11 goals and three assists for 25 points. The Surge will play Ancilla College in the semi-finals of the NJCAA Region XII Division I men's soccer tournament. The semi-finals are Saturday, October 31 at Cuyahoga Community College in Parma, OH. The first match is at 12 noon with the second match at 2:00 PM, the championship will be Sunday, November 1 at 12:00 noon.

Sinclair women's basketball participates in breast cancer fundraiser

For the seventh consecutive year, the Sinclair Community College Women's Basketball Team participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 17 at the Dayton Dragons' Fifth Third Field.  Approximately 6,500 walkers participated in the event raising $375,000 on Saturday for research, education, advocacy, and patient services.
The Sinclair CC Women's Basketball team had a group of 25 walkers including players, coaches, family, and friends.  The team raised $1,180 in donations all going to the American Cancer Society.
Making Strides events are noncompetitive walks ranging in distance from 3 to 5 miles.  The event unites people of all ages with a common goal to fight breast cancer and save lives.  Chances are, you've been affected by breast cancer in some way, and Making Strides gives you the power to fight back and make a difference.

Columbus State holds on to number six in final volleyball poll
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team held on to the number six spot in the final NJCAA Division II women's volleyball poll for the season. The Cougars, who are the OCCAC conference champions, have an overall record of 35-7 and are 11-0 on the OCCAC. They will be the number one seed in the NJCAA District E volleyball tournament to be held November 6-8 at Grand Rapids Community College. The Cougars are led by Jackie Randulic with 2.99 kills per set, 0.75 aces per set and 2.20 digs per set, while Kristin Bergman with 2.25 kills per set. Kelley Lefeld has 2.19 kills per set and 0.42 blocks per set, while Jaclynn Yocum has 2.06 kills per set. Rebecca Berger has 6.48 assists per set, 0.50 aces per set, while Megan Danner chips in 4.32 assists per set and 2.21 digs per set. Morgan Kohls has 0.51 aces per set and Morgan Zumberger has 4.71 digs per set. Edison Community College is in the others receiving votes catagory for another week. The Chargers are 18-7 overall, 8-2 in OCCAC play and are led by Holly Tobias with 3.06 kills per set. Madison Griesdorn has 2.33 kills per set, 0.40 aces per set. Shelby Shimp has 3.73 digs per set, Tara Spicer has 2.18 digs per set. Bethany Hoehne has 7.90 assists per set. Sarah Petty has 0.49 blocks per set for the Chargers.

Columbus State CC number four in NJCAA pre-season hoops poll
The Columbus State Community College men's basketball team is ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division II men's basketball pre-season poll. The Cougars finished last season with a record of 27-4 and won the District 7 title last season. They went 1-2 at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament last season.

Owens ranked 11th in pre-season basketball poll
The Owens Community College women's basketball team is ranked 11th in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll. The Express finished last season with an 18-13 last season. Cincinnati State Technical & Community College is ranked 12th in the pre-season after the Surge finished last season with a record of 22-6 overall and won the OCCAC conference title.

Owens CC Hall and Udovicic named OCCAC Soccer player/goalie of the week
Owens Community College forward Rodcliff Hall and goalkeeper Pavle Udovicic havenamed OCCAC player and goalkeeper of the week for the week ending October 25th. Hall had three goals in two games including two in Sunday's win over Cuyahoga Community College which clinched a Region Tournament berth for the Express. He also scored the winning goal against Lakeland Community College. Udovicic played all but 10 minutes of both games this week. He had a shutout against Lakeland Community College and played 80 minutes of scoreless soccer on Sunday against Cuyahoga Community College. He faced four shots versus Lakeland and two versus Cuyahoga. The OCCAC congratulates both players on the awards.

Lakeland's Chambers earns OCCAC player of the week honors
Lakeland Community College Karisca Chambers earned OCCAC player of the week honors for the week ending October 24. The sophomore setter recorded her 1,000 career assist versus Owens Community College on Wednesday night. She had 82 assists, 13 aces, 17 digs, three kills and two blocks for the week. She had 12 aces in a three set match versus Edison Community College. Karisca lost two of her power hitters over the weekend and still managed to record 56 assists in the two matches. The OCCAC congratulates Karisca on the award.

Owens CC to host Volley for a Cure on Wednesday
The Owens Community College volleyball program is encouraging area residents to help in supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the organization’s efforts in the fight against breast cancer by making a donation during the Express’ home match against Lorain County Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The match begins at 6 p.m.
Admission to the home match is $3 per person ($1 for Owens students) with all the proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure initiative. Additionally, each attendee’s entrance ticket will serve as a raffle ticket for the chance to win the evening’s pink game ball signed by the current Express volleyball team. The match will take place in the College’s Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
In addition to the admission donation, individuals will have the opportunity to participate in various fundraisers throughout the evening, which will be located at several tables inside the Student Health and Activities Center gymnasium entrance. The Express volleyball team will be wearing pink jersey uniforms during the match, as well as hosting a bake sale and a silent auction to win a pink game worn Express volleyball jersey. Breast cancer awareness T-shirts, pins, bracelets, necklaces and wall-of-hope cards will also be available for purchase during the “Volley for the Cure” event. All money raised by the team will go directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. More than $1 billion has been raised to aid the fight against breast cancer in the world.
The Express women’s volleyball program has amassed a 28-16 overall record and currently is in second place in the OCCAC standings. Led by Head Coach Sonny Lewis, their conference record is 7-2.

Columbus State falls five spots to number six in this week's poll
Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team had its six week reign at the top of the NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll. The Cougars dropped five spots this week after an 0-5 weekend at the Kishwaukee (IL) College Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, WI. They are now 31-7 overall and 10-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Jackie Randulic with 2.98 kills per set, 0.75 aces per set, 2.21 digs per set, while Kristin Bergman has 2.24 kills per set. Kelley Lefeld has 2.20 kills per set and 0.42 blocks per set, while Jaclynn Yocum has 2.03 kills per set. Rebecca Berger has 0.51 aces per set and 6.84 assists per set, while Morgan Kohls has 0.51 aces per set. Morgan Zumberger has 4.71 digs per set, while Megan Danner has 2.27 digs per set. Elise England has 0.33 blocks per set. Edison Community College is in the other receiving votes catagory this week. The Chargers are 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the OCCAC and are led by Madison Griesdorn with 2.26 kills per set and 0.40 aces per set. Shelby Shimp has 3.77 digs per set, while Tara Spicer has 2.27 digs per set. Bethany Hoehne has 7.80 assist per set. Owens Commuity College is also in the others receiving votes catagory again this week. The Express are 29-15 overall and 8-1 in the OCCAC and are led by Maureen Kurtz with 2.57 kills per set and 0.81 blocks per set. Brooke Hearn has 2.41 kills per set, while Lauren Lind has 2.09 kills per set. Brooke Thomas has 0.30 aces per set, while Amanda Drew has 3.90 digs per set. Leigha Poulson has 7.66 assists per set, while Amanda Schuster has 0.56 blocks per set.

Cincinnati State breaks into NJCAA Divison I Soccer Poll
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College broke into the NJCAA Divsion I Men's Soccer poll with the number 14 ranking this week. The Surge are 13-2-1 overall and have locked up the OCCAC title with an 6-0-0 record. They are led by Dylan Hoop with 12 goals and 11 assists for 35 points. Grant Kercher has 11 goals and eight assist for 30 points. Ashton Bennett has 11 goals and three assists for 25 points, while Jake Jones has five goals and 11 assists for 21 points.

Kercher and Morgan earn OCCAC soccer player/goalie of the week
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College midfielder Grant Kercher and goaltender Austin Morgan have been named OCCAC player and goaltender of the week respectfully. Kercher scored two goals and had two assists this week in two matches this week. He had two goals and one assist in the match Sunday versus Cuyahoga Community. Austin Morgan played two matches this week giving up one goal in each match facing seven shots on Saturday versus Lakeland Community College and five on Sunday versus Cuyahoga CC. Cincinnati State locked up the OCCAC crown with a perfect 6-0-0 record. The OCCAC congratulates Grant and Austin on the awards.

Hoehne earns OCCAC volleyball player of the week honors
Edison Community College setter Bethany Hoehne has been named OCCAC player of the week for the week ending October 17. She had 55 assists in two matches last week as the Chargers went 1-1. She also had 2 kills, one ace and 13 digs. The OCCAC congratulates Bethany on her award.

Sinclair raises over $500 for breast cancer in "Think Pink Game"
A battling Sinclair Community College Women’s Volleyball Team clad in pink uniforms, to honor those battling breast cancer, played an inspired match in front of a season record crowd at Sinclair's Physical Activates Center against Lorain County Community College.  The Tartan Pride would win game one 25-23, drop game two 26-24, come back and take games three 28-26, and four 25-17 to close out the match.
Jessica McCann was honored between games for her outstanding performance in the classroom and presented her Distinguished Academic All-American Plaque. McCann also led the Nation in digs in her second year with The Tartan Pride. To be recognized by The National Junior College Athletic Association, NJCAA as a Distinguished Academic All-American, the candidate must achieve a GPA of 3.7 or above. 
Today's Dig for a Cure Game raised over $500 and will be donated to the local cancer society on behalf of the The Sinclair Women's Volleyball Team.
Sinclair will return to home action on Friday, October 23 at 6:00 PM as they take on Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) foe Cuyahoga CC on the campus of Sinclair,  Building 8 in The Physical Activities Center. Gates and Concessions open at 5 PM.

Sinclair to host "Think Pink Game" on Saturday
When Sinclair Community College hosts Lorain County Community College this Saturday, it will the Think Pink Game. The teams will play with a special pink volleyball, which will be auction off after the game with all the players signatures on it. Sinclair will wear pink jersey and there will be a silent auction and carnations for all ladies attending the game. All gate, consessions, donations and auction money going to charity. The match starts at 1:30 on Saturday.

Columbus State CC holds onto to number 1 for sixth straight week
Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team remained the number one team in the NJCAA Divsion II Volleyball poll for the sixth straight week. The Cougars are 30-2 overall, 7-0 in the OCCAC and led by Jackie Randulic with 2.86 kills per set, 0.79 aces per set, 2.13 digs per set. Kristin Berger has 2.26 kills per set, 2.13 digs per set and 7.84 assists per set, while Kelly Lefeld had 2.27 kills per set, 0.43 blocks per set. Jaclynn Yocum has 2.07 kills per set and Morgan Kohls have 0.59 aces per set. Morgan Zumberger has 5.01 digs per set, while Megan Danner has 2.54 digs per set. Elise England has 0.41 blocks per set. Edison Community College remained in the others receiving votes with a 15-6 overall record and a 5-1 OCCAC record. The Chargers are led by Holly Tobias with 3 kills per set, whil Madison Griesdron has 2.041 kills per set and 0.42 aces per set. Shelby Shimp has 3.64 digs per set and Tara Spicer has 2.25 digs per set. Bethany Hoehne averages 7.80 assists per set, while Sara Petty has 0.40 blocks per set. Owens Community College is the other OCCAC team in the others receiving votes catagory. The Express are 23-13 overall and 6-1 in the OCCAC this year. They are led by Maureen Kurtz has 2.53 kills per set and 0.72 blocks per set, while Brooke Hearn has 2.38 kills per set. Lauren Lind has 2.53 kills per set. Brooke Thomas has 0.36 aces per set, while Leigha Poulson has 7.76 kills per set. Amanda Schuster has 0.55 blocks per set, while Jessica Knueve has 0.44 blocks per set.

Bennett and Zinser named OCCAC soccer player/goalie of the week
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College forward Ashton Bennett and goalkeeper Corey Zinser have been named OCCAC soccer player and goalkeeper of the week respectfully. Bennett scored three goals and had one assist this week as the Surge went 2-0, including a 2-1 win over NAIA Indiana Wesleyan University. Ashton scored both goals in the win over IWU. He also had a goal and an assist against Region XII opponent Delta College. Ziner recorded two wins this week allowing just one goal in 180 minutes of play, while facing 16 shots. The OCCAC congratulates both Ashton and Corey on the award

Edison's Tobias named OCCAC volleyball player of the week
Edison Community College outside hitter Holly Tobias has been named OCCAC volleyball player of the week for the week ending October 10. She had 12 kills, seven digs and one ace in one three set win over OCCAC rival Sinclair CC. The OCCAC congratulates Holly on the award.

Cincinnati State drops to others receiving votes
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College dropped to the others receiving votes catagory this week after their loss to Schoolcraft College over the weekend. The Surge are 9-2-1 overall and 4-0 the OCCAC. Dylan Hoop led the team with eight goals and eight assists and 24 points, while Ashton Bennett has eight goals and two assists for 18 ponts. Cody Clark also has 18 points on six goals and six assists, Jake Jones has five goals and seven assists for 17 points.

Kristin Bergman has 2.29 kills per set and 0.30 blocks per game, while Kelley Lefeld has 2.27 kills per set, 0.43 blocks per game. Jaclynn Yocum has 2.00 kills per set, while Rebecca Berger has 0.62 aces per set, 2.11 digs per set and 7.71 assists per set. Morgan Kohls averages 0.60 aces per set, while Morgan Zumberger has 4.98 digs per set. Megan Danner has 2.57 digs per set, Elise England has 0.40 blocks per set. Edison Community College drops to others receiving votes catagory this week. The Chargers are 14-6 overall and 4-1 OCCAC. Lakeland's Miller and Trifonovs named soccer player/goalie of the week
Lakeland Community College forward Dean Miller and goalkeeper Antons Trifonovs have been named the OCCAC soccer player and goalkeeper to the weeks respectively. Miller, a freshman forward from Johanesburg, South Africia, scored the game winning goal with 13 minutes left in the game to avenge an earlier loss to the Cuyahoga Community College. The win put the Lakers in to second place in the OCCAC. Antons Trifonovs, a freshman from Riga, Latavia, turned away 11 of 12 shots to help the Lakers secure the 2-1 win over Cuyahoga Community College. He also assisted on Miller's game winning goal. The OCCAC congratulates both players on the award.

Edison's Petty earns OCCAC volleyball player of the week honors
Edison Community College Sarah Petty is this week's OCCAC women's volleyball player of the week for the week ending October 3rd. Petty, a sophomore middle blocker, had 19 kills and 1 error in 40 attempts for a hitting percentage of .450 in four conference matches this week. She also had one assist and seven blocks at the Chargers went 3-1 on the week. The OCCAC congratulates Sarah on the award.
