Owens Community College moves up one spot in this week's poll
The Owens Community College Women's Basketball team moved up one spot this week's NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Poll to number eight. The Express are 4-1 overall and are led by Brittany Darling with 19.3 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game, whil Jasmine Blanton averages 17.7 points per game. Sarah Clark is averaging 11.7 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Four OCCAC schools are in the other receiving votes catagory this week. Cincinnati State Technical & Community College (4-3), Edison Community College (4-0), Lakeland Community College (7-2) and Sinclair Community College (4-1) are the team in that catagory this week.

The Columbus State Community College dropped two spots in this week's NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball poll to number five. The Cougars are 6-0 on the season after defeating Marietta College last night.

Columbus State finishes seventh at volleyball nationals
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo (MI) Valley Community College today, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 to finish seventh at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Nationals held at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The Cougars finish the season with a record of 43-10 overall on the season.

Columbus State drops today's match to Des Moines Area
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team could not quite recover from last night's loss to Parkland (IL) College and dropped their match today to Des Moines (IA) Area Community College, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23. The Cougars will play tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST against the other Region XII team at the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Nationals when the take on Kalamazoo (MI) Valley Community College. The match will be held at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The winner will finish in seventh place, while the loser will finish eighth.

Columbus State drops close match to Parkland College
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought match to third seeded Parkland (IL) College tonight at the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Tournament. The Cougars were up 2-1 after three sets dropping the first set 25-22 before winning sets two and three by scores of 25-20 and 25-22. The Cobras won the fourth set 25-22 before taking the fifth set 15-9. The loss drops the Cougars (42-9) into the consolation bracket to face Des Moines (IA) Area Community College tomorrow at 4:30 EST at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Columbus State CC defeats McHenry County is first match
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team won their first match at the NJCAA Division II Nationals today by beating McHenry (IL) County College 25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 25-17. The Cougars (42-8) will play Parkland (IL) College at 6:30 PM EST today at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Columbus State kicks of Volleyball Nationals tomorrow morning
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team will be one of four teams playing the opening matches of the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Nationals tomorrow morning in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The Cougars will face off against McHenry (IL) County College at 10:00 AM EST time at the Chula Vista Resort. Columbus State Community College (41-8) is seeded sixth in the tournament this year. The Cougars are returning to the Nationals for the second straight season and finished sixth in last year's Nationals. They are led by NJCAA District E Player of the Year libero Morgan Zumberger. Megan Danner and Jackie Randulic made the NJCAA District E All-Tournament team two weeks ago in Grand Rapids, MI.

Columbus State, Owens, Edison dominate All-OCCAC Volleyball first team
The top three teams in the OCCAC final volleyball standings had all but on of the spots on the OCCAC First Team Volleyball Awards. Columbus State Community College, which held the number one ranking for six consecutive weeks placed four players on the team. Morgan Zumberger, Kirsten Bergman, Megan Danner and Jackie Randulic were all First Team All-OCCAC as well as All-Region award winners. The other two OCCAC players earning All-Region Honors as well as First Team All-OCCAC honors were Holly Tobias of Edison Community College at Maureen Kurtz of Owens Community College. Other Edison players earning first team All-OCCAC honors are Madi Griesdorn and Shelby Shimp. Brooke Hearn, Amanada Drew and Leigha Poulson of Owens CC earned first team honors. The only person on the First Team from another school was Brannigan Fannin of Lorain County Community College. Zumberger was named OCCAC Player of the Year and Scott Nichols of Columbus State CC was named Coach of the Year. The complete list of award winners including Honorable Mention can be found here.

OCCAC soccer honors announced
The OCCAC men's soccer awards have been announced and Cincinnati State Technical & Community College lead the way with five members. Cody Clark, Mike Rizzi, Grant Kercher, Dylan Hoop and goalkeeper Austin Morgan all were named to the First Team. Owens Community College placed Lorenzo Carrion-Bistolfi, Rodcliff Hall and Michael Hamouda on the First Team. Lakeland Community College had Dean Miller and Manuel Conde on the First Team and Cuyahoga Community College Dario Smijanic rounded out the First Team OCCAC. Carrion-Bistolfi was named OCCAC Defensive Player of the Year and Dean Miller of Lakeland Community College was the OCCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Manuel Conde of Lakeland Community College was named OCCAC Midfielder of the Year and Dean Miller of Lakeland was the Most Valuable Player of the Year. Five OCCAC Women's Basketball teams in first regular season poll.
Owens Community College leads five OCCAC in the first NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball poll of the season. The Express (4-1) are ranked ninth in this week's rankings. Cincinnati State Technical & Community College women's basketball team is ranked 14th in this week's poll. The Surge are 2-2 on the young season. Three OCCAC teams are in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Edison Community College (2-0), Lakeland Community College (5-1) and Sincalir Commnity College (3-0) are the team in that catagory this week.

Three OCCAC women's basketball players named pre-season All-Americans
Three OCCAC women's basketball players have been named to the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Pre-Season All-Americans. Sarah Clark of Owens Community College has been named to the Second Team Pre-Season All-American Team. The 5-10 sophmore averaged 15.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game last year. Jessica Saffold of Cuyahoga Community College is also a Second Team Pre-Season All-American. The 5-9 sophomore averaged 16.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game last season. Tamara Sneed of Cincinnati State Technical & Community College was named to the Third Team All-American. The 5-10 sophomore averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game last season. The OCCAC congratulates these players on the award.

Three OCCAC men's basketball players named NJCAA Pre-Season All-Americans
Three OCCAC men's basketball players have been named NJCAA Pre-Season All-Americans for the 2009-10 season. James Millen of Cincinnati State Technical & Community College was named First Team Pre-Season All-American. The 6-2, 185 pound sophomore, averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game last season. Nate Barnes of Lakeland Community College was also named First Team All-American. The 5-11, 165 pound sophomore averaged 21.8 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season. Josh Eichelberger of Columbus State Community College was named to the Pre-Season Third Team All-American. The 6-3, 195 pound sophomore, averaged 13.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season for Glen Oaks (MI) Community College. The OCCAC congratulates these players on their awards.
