Sinclair CC wins two to stay alive at the Region XII baseball Tournament
The Sinclair Community College baseball team went 2-0 on Saturday to stay alive in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament. The Pride opened the tournament Friday with a 9-5 win over Muskegon (MI) CC. They were led by John Lydic in the first game as he went 3-4 with a runs scored, two runs batted in and a double. Jacob Robinson went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Billy Kitchen pitched at complete game allowing seven hits, five runs (all earned), seven strikeouts and five walks.
In the second game host Kellogg CC mercied Sinclair 14-4 in six innings. Daniel Marsh went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI and Jacob Robinson went 2-3 with two runs scored.
On Saturday, Sinclair withstood a seventh inning rally from Macomb CC to win 7-6. Clay Ragland went 3-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Zach Botjer went six innings scattering six hits, six runs, five earned, walking four and striking out four. Paul Zubeck came in to pitch three batters into the seventh and allowed on hit and walked one but picked up the save.
In the second game the story was offense and the Pride outslugged Grand Rapids CC 16-9 to advance to tomorrow's loser's bracket final. Sinclair was led by Jacob Robinson who went 4-5 with, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Nate Kautz went 4-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Kyle Hopwood came picked up the win in relief going four innings, scattering three hits while striking out two.
Sinclair will play Vincennes (IN) University tomorrow at 1:00 PM. If Sinclair wins the will then play Kellogg CC at 4:00 PM. Sinclair will have to beat Kellogg CC twice to advance to the NJCAA Nationals in Enid, OK.

Owens CC comes up short in championship game
The Owens Community College softball team made it all the way to the NJCAA District E Softball Tournament Championship. Then they ran into Lansing Community College and lost to them 11-4 in the title game. Owens opened the tournament by beating Kalamazoo Valley CC 8-3. Owens then faced Lansing Community College and lost 2-1 to the number #2 ranked Stars 2-1, as Lansing homered in the sixth and seventh innings to win the game. On Friday, The Lady Express mercied Kalamazoo Valley CC 8-0 in 5 innings. Owens then faced the Stars and could not find a way to stop their high powered offense, as the hit three home runs in the game. Owens had three players make the All-Tournament Team. Danielle Hahn, Kendall Kulakowski and Amanda Temple were all recongized for their play during the tournament.

Cuyahoga CC finished third in District F Tournament
The Cuyahoga Community College softball team went 2-2 to finish third in the NJCAA District F Softball Tournament. Cuyahoga opened the tournament by losing to eventually champion Macomb (MI) Community College 13-1 five innings as the Monarchs pounded out five home runs. The Challengers only run came on a solo shot by Alex Podmore. Cuyahoga then beat Mott (MI) Community College 4-2 to advance to Friday. The Challengers beat Delta (MI) College 7-6 on Friday morning as they held off a seventh inning rally by the Pioneers. Cuyahoga then had to play Oakland (MI) Community College. The Challengers lost the game 8-4 as Podmore hit another solo home run.
Cuyahoga placed two landed two players on the All-Tournament Team. Alex Podmore and Danielle Almaschie both were honored for their play in the tournament.
