Women's Basketball
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College held on to the number four ranking in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Rankings for the fifth straight week. The Lady Surge, 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC are lead by Heather Hassloch, who averages 19.4 points per game, 11.6 rebounds per game. Ashley Huddleston averages 17.2 ppg and 4.0 assists per game, while Tamara Sneed averages 11.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 3.4 apg. Tiersa Fernandes averages 10.7 ppg and 3.8 apg and Na'Tasha Farr averages 7.7 rpg.
Three OCCAC schools are in the others receiving votes category. Edison Community College (14-2 ovarall, 2-1 OCCAC), Owens Community College (11-6, 2-1) and Sinclair Community College (9-6, 2-1) are the team that are in the category.
Edison CC is led by Gail Hartings with 16.9 points per game and Jodi Benznzer with 11.6 points per game. The Chargers are also led by Rachel Striebich with 11.4 ppg and 12.4 rebounds per game.
Owens CC is led by Jeanne Bockey, who averages 14.0 points per game. Unique Lane averages 11.4 points per game and 6.3 rebouds per game while, Sarah Clark averages 6.0 rebounds per game.
Sinclair CC is led by Amanda White, who averages 15.4 points per game, while Chelcie Gullett averages 13.5 points per game. Jessica Pierre averages 8.3 rebounds per game.

Men's Basketball
For the fifth straight week Columbus State Community College held on to the number six spot in this week in the NJCAA Divison II Men's Basketball poll. The Cougars are 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. They are led by Greg Rice, who averages 18.9 points per game and 4.1 assist per game, 5.9 rebounds per game and Greg LeSage who averages 15.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg. Rayshawn Goins averages 14.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, Brandon Beasley with 12.7 ppg and Jerrell Sanders 11.5 ppgm 5.4 rpg. Kendall Holt averages 6.5 assists per game for the Cougars.
Sinclair Community College moved up two spots this week to number 13. The Tartan Pride are led by Mark Anderson who averages 24.6 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, while Jonathon Tate with 14.5 ppg and 5.1 assists per game. Charles Winkfield averages 12.9 ppg, while British Alexander averages 12.7 ppg, 9.0 rpg. Kevin Vest averages 11.5 ppg and 2.6 apg.

Beasley and Hassloch earn OCCAC Player of the Week honors
Brandon Beasley of Columbus State Community College at Heather Hassloch of Cincinnati State Technical & Community College have been named Players of the Week in the OCCAC.
Beasley, a 6-4 sophomore forward from Indianapolis, IN, scored 53 point in two games this week. He also had 21 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks. Brandon was 19 of 32 from the floor, three of seven on three pointers and eight of 13 from the free throw line for the week, as the sixth ranked Cougars won both their games. Beasley was the leading scorer in both games.
Hassloch, a 6-0 sophomore forward/center, scored 30 points and grabbed 31 rebounds in two games this week. She also had four assists, six steals and five blocks for the fourth ranked Surge. She was 16/40 from the floor, one of three from the three point arc and four of six from the charity stripe. She had 26 against Columbus on Wednesday. "Heather has been a tremendous leader to our program as a sophomore; she has guided our young team to a current record of 14-3 overall, 3-0 in the conference and a number four ranking in the nation. She has also continued to work hard in the classroom as well as in the community", said Surge Head Coach Theresa Check

Men's Basketball
Columbus State Community College held on to the number six spot in the NJCAA Division II National Basketball Poll. This is the fourth straight week that the Cougars (14-1) have held that spot. The Cougars beat Owens Community College on Saturday 80-74 for their 14th win of the season. The Cougars are led by Greg Rice who averages 19.9 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game and 4.1 assist per game, while Greg LeSage with 15.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg. Rayshawn Goins (14.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg), Brandon Beasley (12.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Kendal Holt (6.0 apgame) and Jerrell Sanders (11.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg) also help the Cougar attack.
Sinclair Community College cracked the top 15 this week debuting at number 15. The Tartan Pride are 12-3 on the season and beat Cuyahoga Community College-Metro 88-69 on Saturday. Mark Anderson averages 25.0 points per game, 12.0 rebounds per game, while Jonathon Tate averages 15.2 ppg ad 4.9 assist per game. Kevin Vest (12.8 ppg), British Alexander (12.7 ppg, 9.0 ppg) and Charles Winkfield (12.3 ppg, 6.0 ppg).

White and Lee named OCCAC Players of the Week
Amanda White and Kenny Lee from Sinclair Community College have been named Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the week of January 12-18, 2009. White, a 5-9 sophomore guard from Vandalia Butler High School scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her only game this week. She shot 50 percent (10-20) from the floor and had a block, assist and a steal in the game. Amanda has an overall scoring average of 16.4 points, which is leading the team and is second in rebounds on the team with 7.5 per game. "In our first conference game of the year, Amanda offensive production helped us in an explosive second half and helped steer us to a victory.", said Sinclair Head Coach Jeff Dillon.
Kenny Lee, 6-6 freshman from Reynoldsburg High School, scored 23 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes of play off the bench. He shot 11-13 from the floor (85 percent) and hit his only free throw.
The OCCAC congratulates both players for the play last week.

The Cougars are 13-1 overall on the season. They are led by Greg Rice who averages 18.9 points per game and 4.1 assist per game. Greg LeSage averages 15.6 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game. Rayhawn Goins averages (14.2 ppg), Brandon Beasley (13.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and Jerrell Sanders (12.2 ppg). Kendall Holt averages 6.7 assists per game.

In this week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Men's Basketball poll, Columbus State Community College moved up three postions to number six. The Cougars 12-1 were ninth in the poll on December 9, the last poll before the holiday break. The Cougars are led by Greg Rice with 24.1 points per game and Greg LeSage with 20.3 ppg and 9.8 rebound per game. Rayshawn Goins (18.0 ppg), Brandon Beasely (13.8) and Jerrell Sanders (13.6 ppg) also average in double figures. Kendall Holt is averaging 7.3 assists per game.
Sinclair Community College is the only other OCCAC school listed in the poll. The Tartan Pride (10-3) are listed in the other receiving votes catagory. Cincinnati State Technical and Community College held on to their number four ranking in this week's National Junior College Division II Women's Basketball Poll. The Surge are 9-3 on the season. The Surge are led by Heather Hassloch who is averaging 19.4 points per game and 10.8 rebound per game. Ashley Huddleston (17.2 ppg, 4.0 apg) and Tamara Sneed (10.5 ppg) are the other members of the team avering in double figures.
Owens Community College is the only other OCCAC team in the rankings. The Lady Express (9-6) are in the others receiving votes catagory. They are led by Jeanne Bockery with 14.0 points per game and Unique Lane with 11.4 ppg.
