Columbus State CC men's basketball team back in other's receiving votes
The Columbus State Community College men's basketball team is back in the other's receiving votes catagory this week. The Cougars are 22-5 overall, 9-4 in the OCCAC and are led by Josh Eichelberger, who averages 14.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Rod Hurst averages 14.3 points per game, while Marcus Britt averages 11.2 points per game. Karriem Baker averages 11.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while Lawrence Bridges averages 10.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Rod Hurst averages 6.0 rebounds per game.

Sinclair CC's Vest named OCCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Sinclair Community College sophomore guard Kevin Vest has been named the OCCAC men's basketball player of the week. Vest scored 53 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. He also dished out ten assists and snagged six steals. Kevin shot 52.7 percent (19-36) from the floor, 43.8 percent (7-16) from the three point arc and 88.9 percent (8-9) from the free throw line. The OCCAC congratulates Kevin on the award.

Lorain County CC Wodarczyk named OCCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Lorain County Community College freshman guard Christa Wodarczyk has been named the OCCAC women's basketball player of the week. She scored 64 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in three games last week. She dished out eight assists, had eight steals and had one block. Christa shot 37.3 percent (19-51) from the floor, 20.8 percent (5-24) from the three point line and 80.6 percent (25-31) from the charity stripe. She scored a career high 26 points in a win over Columbus State Community College. She also had 22 points against Cuyahoga Community College. "Christa is an excellent player and teammate. She dominates the court and no one can hold her back. She has been a major part of LCCC's success this season.", said head coach Katie Street. The OCCAC congratulates Christa on the award.

Owens Community College moves up to number two in this week poll.
The Owens Community College women's basketball team moved up two spots in this week's NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll to number two in the nation. The Express are 24-2 overall, 10-0 in the OCCAC and are led by Jasmine Blanton with 16.2 points per game. Brittany Darling averages 13.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Sarah Clark averages 10.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is in the other's receiving votes catagory again this week. The Surge are 17-8, 9-1 OCCAC and are led by Shadai-Morrison Fountain with 19.1 points per game. Tamara Sneed averages 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while Na'Tasha Farr aveages 12.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Javonna Saddler averages 6.3 rebounds per game. Edison Community College is also in the other's receiving votes catagory this week. The Chargers are 15-6, 4-5 OCCAC and are led by Ashley Rice who averages 11.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Jodi Benanzer averages 11.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while Rachel Stiebich averages 11.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Andrea Myer averages 11.2 points per game for the Edison CC. Lakeland Community College is the final OCCAC school in the other receiving votes catagory. The Lakers are 19-5, 8-2 OCCAC and are led by SirShawna Dowdy averages 19.0 points per game. Aslea Williams averages 15.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, while Zipporah Tidwell averages 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Danielle Lewis averages 11.1 points per game, while Tiara Roberts averages 5.2 rebounds per game.

Lakeland CC's men's basketball in other's receiving votes catagory this week
The Lakeland Community College men's basketball team moved into the other's receiving votes catagory in this week's NJCAA Division II men's basketball poll. The Lakers are 18-7 overall, 8-2 in the OCCAC and are lead by Nate Barnes, who averages 21.3 points per game. Darrell Lampley averages 17.4 points per game, while Tevin Calhoun averages 13.9 points per game. Brendan Cooper averages 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while Klein Harper averages 9.5 rebounds per game.

Lakeland's Williams named OCCAC women's basketball player of the week
Lakeland Community College sophomore forward/post Aslea Williams has been named the OCCAC women's basketball player of the week. Williams scored 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in two games last week. She also had one steal and one block. Aslea shot 42.9 percent (9-21) from the floor and 71.4 percent (15-21) from the free throw line. The OCCAC congratulates Aslea on the award.

Owens' Dunn named OCCAC men's basketball player of the week
Owens Community College sophomore forward Jonathon Dunn has been named OCCAC men's basketball player of the week. Dunn scored 44 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in two games last week. He also had three steals and three assist. Jonathon shot 36.8 percent (14-38) from the floor and 76.2 percent (16-21) from the charity stripe. "Constantly doubled and tripled to when going to the basket. Jon continues to force teams to guard him which has opened up things for our other players. Key person in our four game winning streak. Still one of the leading scores in the nation.", said head coach Kevin Skaggs. The OCCAC congratulates Jonathon on the award.

The Owens Community College women's basketball team is number four again this week in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll. Brittany Darling averages 13.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Sarah Clark averages 11.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Andrea Meyer averages 11.4 points per game, while Rachel Striebich averages 10.8 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. Jodi Benanzer averages 10.8 points amd 5.2 rebounds per game. Lakeland Community College is also in the category. The Lakers are 17-5, 6-2 in the OCCAC and are led by SirShawna Dowdy with 19.0 points per game. Aslea Williams averages 15.1 points per game, Zipporah Tidwell averages 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The Columbus State Community College men's basketball team dropped one spot this week to number 15 in the NJCAA Divsion II Men's Basketball poll. The Cougars are 19-3 overall, 6-2 in the OCCAC and are led by Josh Eichelberger who averages 14.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Rod Hurst averages 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while Marcus Britt averages 11.8 points per game. Karriem Baker averages 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while Lawrence Bridges averages 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Sinclair Women's basketball team assisting in Crayons to the Classroom program
The Sinclair Women's Basketball Team is assisting Crayons to Classrooms as their community service project this year. Dayton's Crayons to Classrooms is a free resource center for teachers from under-funded K-12 schools serving children who live in poverty in the greater Dayton area. In partnership with local businesses, individual donors, and community volunteers, DC2C lifts at-risk children's level and love of learning by providing them with basic school supplies that are essential to academic achievement at no cost to the children's teachers, families or schools.
The Sinclair Women's Basketball Team is collecting items at all home games this season to be donated to DC2C. Items most needed are crayons, pencils, pens, glue sticks, folders, sciccors, rulers, notebooks, and filler paper. In addition, the women's basketball team is volunteering on-site. They assist with helping teachers fulfilling their supply lists from DC2C.

Sinclair's Campbell named OCCAC women's basketball player of the week
Sinclair Community College freshman forward Shannon Campbell has been named the OCCAC women's basketball player of the week for the week ending February 5, 2010. Campbell scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her only game last week. The entire OCCAC schedule was wiped out Saturday by a massive snowstorm. She aloso had three assists and six steals in the game. She shot 50 percent (7 of 14) from the floor and two for two from the three point arc. Shannon also shot 83.3 percent (5 of 6) from the free throw line. "Shannon has stepped up for our team big time in the face of some key injuries. Her contributions offensively and defensively have been huge.", said head coach Jeff Dillon. The OCCAC congratulates Shannon on the award.

Men's basketball race still up for grabs at the halfway point
As the OCCAC men's basketball season passed the halfway poll on Saturday one thing has become clear, the race is nowhere near over. In fact two games seperate the top seven teams in the OCCAC. Columbus State Community College and Lakeland Community College are tied for first place with a 5-2 conference record. Sincliar Community College sits in third place one half game back at 5-3 in the OCCAC. Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and Cuyahoga Community College are tied for fourth, one full game behind, with a record of 4-3 in the conference. Owens Community College and Edison Community College are two games behind and tied for sixth with a 3-4 record in the OCCAC. Lorain County Community College is in eighth with an 0-8 record. The second half kicks off Wednesday with Columbus hosting Sinclair, Cuyahoga hosting Owens, Edison hosting Cincinnati State and Lorain County hosting Lakeland.

They are led by Josh Eichelberger, who averages 15.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while Rod Hurst averages 13.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Marcus Britt averages 11.9 points per game, while Karriem Baker averages 11.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Lawrence Bridges averages 10.4 points per game, while Anthony Williams averaes 5.2 rebounds per game. The Cougars host Sinclair Community College who are tied for third place in the conference on Wednesday night in Columbus.

Cincinnati State Technical & Community College forward Rayshawn Goins has been named the OCCAC men's basketball player of the week for the week ending January 30th. Goins scored 38 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in two games this week. He also had six steals, four blocks and one assist in 63 minutes of play. Rayshawn shot 33.3 percent (11-33) from the floor and 76.2 percent (16-21) from the free throw line for the week. The OCCAC congratulates Rayshawn on the award.

Edison's Striebich named OCCAC Player of the Week
Edison Community College post player Rachael Striebich has been named the OCCAC women's basketball player of the week for the week ending January 30th. Striebich scored 27 points and grabbed 37 rebounds in two games last week. She also had seven assists, six steals and 11 blocks in two games. She shot 35.7 percent (10-28) from the floor and 77.8 percent (7-9) from the free throw line. The OCCAC congratulates Rachael on the award.
